Caught on Cam: School Bus Sideswipes Vehicles in Manayunk

New video shows a school bus sideswiping two vehicles and not stopping on a narrow street in Manayunk Wednesday morning.

A driver, who did not want to be identified, recorded as the school bus traveled on Umbria Street around 6 a.m. and struck a parked Ford Escape. Only seconds later, the school bus sideswiped another parked car and continued on.

Christopher Zaccaria, the fiancé of the owner of the Ford Escape, told NBC10 he didn’t see the bus hit the vehicle but noticed the damage when he left for work in the morning.

“I saw the rear tire first and that was blown out,” Zaccaria said. “First thing I noticed was the car was sitting low. All these scuffs and then obviously the rear view mirror I saw was missing.”

The owner of the other vehicle that was hit told NBC10 the bus knocked off her driver side window and dented the car’s side and bumper.

The driver who recorded the bus left a note and a link to the video to both owners of the damaged vehicles so that they could file a police report. One woman who lives along Umbria Street told NBC10 she’s seen other vehicles damaged in her neighborhood.

“Both roommates had a mirror taken off already,” said Kathryn Volk. “We’ve been here for four months.”

Despite the damage, Zaccaria is thankful someone caught the school bus driver on camera.

“Not all hope is lost for humanity,” he said. “Especially around the holidays. It’s really good to see that someone was willing to probably be late to work that morning.”
