Man Tells Ex-Wife He May Have Killed Pottstown Mom: DA

Edwin Carrero's ex-wife told police that he admitted choking Alicia Schmidt of Pottstown and pushing her down the basement steps, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney.

Police are looking for the boyfriend of a Pottstown mother who was murdered on Thursday.

Alicia Schmidt, 31, was strangled. Her body was found at the bottom of her basement steps. Her two children, ages seven and 12, were found safe in their upstairs bedrooms.

Police are searching for her boyfriend, Edwin Carrero, who lived with Schmidt on Cherry Street.

Carrero, 32, called his ex-wife early Thursday morning and told her "that he may have killed Alicia," according to a press release from the Montgomery County District Attorney.

Carrero told his ex that he choked Alicia and pushed her down the stops of the basement, according to the police affidavit. He then asked his ex to give him "a half hour to an hour" before she called the police, the affidavit states.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the case of Carrero's whereabouts to call Pottstown police at 610-970-6570 or Montgomery County Detectives at 610-278-3368.
