Man Targets Black Muslim Women With Slurs During Road Rage Incident: Police

Police have jailed a man accused of targeting two black Muslim women with slurs during a road rage confrontation in the parking lot of a suburban Philadelphia convenience store.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports 27-year-old Hovsep Avesyan faces a preliminary hearing Dec. 6 on charges including terroristic threats and ethnic intimidation.

Upper Darby police say the suspect, a white man of Armenian descent, told the women to "Go back to Africa" and made other insults while also displaying a gun under his jacket.

That allegedly happened about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 22 and the suspect was arrested Wednesday outside his home in Upper Providence Township. Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood also told the Delaware County Daily Times they found over 20 firearms in a safe from inside his home. He also said police confiscated thousands of rounds of ammunition, smoke grenades and several bulletproof vests during the ongoing investigation.

Online court records indicate the suspect was still in the Delaware County jail on Monday, with no attorney listed.
