Man Sentenced in DUI Crash that Killed Police Officer

A drunken driver who led police on a pursuit that ended when he crashed into a police cruiser, killing one officer and severely injuring another, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison.

The July 2012 crash occurred as Timothy Seidel, a 25-year-old Commercial Township resident, was trying to elude other police officers. His speeding vehicle crashed into a cruiser driven by Millville officer Christopher Reeves, who happened to be giving a new officer a nighttime tour of that city.

The 40-year-old Reeves was killed in the crash, while the other officer suffered serious injuries that still affect him.

Timothy Seidel received a 14-year sentence Friday for an aggravated manslaughter charge linked to Reeves' death. He also received a 5-year consecutive sentence for aggravated assault on the injured officer.
