Man Killed, Sheriff's Son Wounded in North Philadelphia Shooting

Jewell Williams Jr's condition remains unknown

The son of outgoing Philadelphia Sheriff Jewell Williams was shot Friday night and remained in critical condition as gunfire erupted in North Philadelphia.

Jewell Williams Jr., 41, was taken to Temple University Hospital after gunfire erupted around 5:30 p.m. Friday on the 3100 block of N. 16th Street, sheriff's spokeswoman Barbara Grant confirmed to NBC10.

"This is a tragic example of the senseless gun violence in our city," the sheriff said through his spokeswoman.

A second man, who was 37 years old, was also shot and died from his wounds, the Philadelphia Police Department said. The deceased man was shot "multiple times throughout the body" and was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the PPD said.

Police recovered a weapon at the scene but have not made any arrests. The cause of the shooting remains under investigation.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
