Man Injured After Lightning Strikes Delco Town

A man is in the hospital after lightning struck in a Delaware County town.

Witnesses told NBC10 the father of three was walking his dog on the 300 block of Hastings Boulevard in Broomall shortly before 6 p.m. when a quick-moving storm formed overhead. As the man walked down the sidewalk and up his driveway, lightning suddenly struck and the man fell to the ground.

“It was so not like anything I’ve ever heard,” said Kelly Sullivan, a witness. “It was terrifying.”

Sullivan says the man was knocked unconscious after she saw the flash and heard a thunderous clap. Witnesses also say the man claimed he had tingling in his legs when he regained consciousness.

“I was terrified because I know him personally,” Sullivan said.

NBC10 First Alert Weather technology showed severe lightning strikes over Broomall at the time of the incident.

Despite the witness accounts, Marple Township Police told NBC10 they don’t believe the man was directly struck by lightning and say he may have suffered some sort of medical emergency.

Investigators say they didn’t find any burns on his body. He was taken to the hospital where he is currently being evaluated.
