A central Pennsylvania man has been ordered to spend more than 14 years in prison for firing a handgun at a Philadelphia police helicopter that shined its spotlight on him.
Twenty-eight-year-old Jonathan Butler was sentenced Thursday to 171 months for firing at the helicopter as it circled above a housing project in July 2008.
Officers in the helicopter were trying to locate suspects who were illegally riding all-terrain vehicles. The helicopter was not hit.
Butler was convicted in July of charges including interfering with a person operating an aircraft.
Butler's attorney said no one reported seeing his client fire the shots but officers say they took the still-warm gun from Butler's waistband.
