A northeastern Pennsylvania man has been convicted of second-degree murder in the slaying of a man beaten to death and robbed of his cellphone.
Twenty-year-old Breon Judon of Hazleton was convicted Monday in Luzerne County Court after jurors deliberated for about three and one-half hours. He faces a mandatory life prison sentence when he is sentenced in December.
Authorities alleged that he and another man beat 29-year-old Aaron Reznick during an August 2012 dispute in Hazleton over an iPhone offered as payment during an alleged drug deal. Reznick died about a week later.
Eighteen-year-old Mitchell Dedes pleaded guilty to third-degree murder but declined to testify against Judon.
Judon's attorney blamed him for the crime.
Judon vowed to appeal and maintained his innocence, saying "There's no justice in the justice system."
