A Philadelphia man could get more than 100 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing his godson after offering to take care of the boy for his financially struggling mother.
A jury on Monday convicted 44-year-old Eric Maloy of raping a child and other charges for the assaults that began in 2009, when the boy was 5 years old.
Maloy began abusing the boy after offering to care for him because his mother couldn't afford to send him to camp. The Philadelphia Daily News reports Maloy had previously been accused of raping a child and murder but was never convicted.
Prosecutors praised the victim's courage for testifying at trial.
Maloy's sentencing is scheduled for March.
