Man Charged With Murder After Allegedly Stabbing Homeless Veteran

A man accused of fatally stabbing a homeless veteran near Philadelphia has been arraigned on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Prosecutors say Dale Wakefield had been out celebrating his 21st birthday before he stabbed 71-year-old George Mohr at least 70 times with a pocket knife outside the Doylestown train station on July 3. The charges against Wakefield were upgraded from attempted murder to murder after Mohr died of his injuries.

Wakefield was arrested in a Baltimore hotel earlier this week and agreed to come back to Pennsylvania. The Bucks County Courier Times reports (http://bit.ly/11GkvFT) he was returned and arraigned Thursday.

Wakefield declined to comment to reporters as he was led from court. He is being held without bail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 21.
