Man Attacks Officers, Drugs Found in Car: Police

A man is in jail after he allegedly attacked two police officers who were conducting a traffic stop.

Investigators say two Gloucester Township Police officers were conducting a traffic stop along the Blackhorse Pike in the Glendora section of Gloucester Township on Thursday. During the stop, the passenger, identified as 18-year-old Ahmad Roper, allegedly jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

Police say the officers were able to grab a hold of Roper. Suddenly, police say, Roper broke free and began to attack the officers as they tried to apprehend him. Eventually they were able to place him under control, according to investigators. Police also say he was in possession of Heroin. He was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, aggravated assault, distribution of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was remanded to the Camden County Jail in default of $70,000 bail.

Police also arrested the driver of the vehicle, identified as 18-year-old Christopher Spencer Jr. Police say he was in possession of a large amount of cocaine. They also say they recovered a 9mm Semi-automatic handgun from the vehicle. Spencer was arrested and charged with distribution of cocaine and other related offenses. He was remanded to the Camden County Jail in default of $150,000 bail.
