Man Arrested for Drug Death of Seaside Mayor's Son

A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with the drug induced death of the son of Seaside Heights Mayor Bill Akers last year.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Officer annouced the arrest of Jashon Jamiel Brinson, of Lakewood, N.J. Tuesday. He's facing multiple charges including Manslaughter.

Twenty-nine-year-old William Akers, son of Seaside Heights mayor Bill Akers, was found dead inside a home last October from an alleged drug overdose.

Following an investigation into Akers' death, it was determine that Brinson had supplied him with the heroin that utlimately killed him, police said.

The so-called β€œStrict Liability in Drug-Induced Deaths” statute law was passed in the late 1980s, during the heights of the crack epidemic. It equates the act of selling drugs with homicide.

Brinson's bail was set at $250,000 cash.
