Man Arrested for Assault, Home Invasion

Police arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly breaking into the home of a woman and assaulting her last January in Seaford, Delaware.

A Magnolia man was arrested last Tuesday for allegedly breaking into the home of a Delaware woman and assaulting her back in January.

On January 20 police say David Benson, 50, entered a house on Dogwood Drive in Seaford through the rear door shortly before 3 a.m.

Police say the homeowner was asleep at the time and awoke to Benson striking her several times in the face while she was on the bed. During the struggle, police say Benson knocked the woman’s cell phone out of her hand when she tried to call 911.

The two then fell onto the floor and the woman was able to escape, according to investigators. Police say she ran to her neighbor’s house and called authorities. She suffered facial lacerations during the alleged attack.

After a 9-month investigation, police say detectives linked Benson to the crime through physical evidence gathered from the home.

Benson is charged with burglary, assault, unlawful imprisonment and other related offenses. He was arraigned at the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution for lack of $14,500 secured bail.
