Man, 18, Sentenced in Vehicular Homicide in Death of Teen Girl

An 18-year-old man who ran a stop sign and killed a 16-year-old student as she walked toward a school bus in Bucks County learned his fate on Monday.

Michael Shelly was sentenced to 11.5 to 23 months in prison and five years probation for the death of Bensalem High School sophomore Minete Zeke.

A jury in August convicted Michael Shelly of vehicular homicide an involuntary manslaughter in the death of Zeka.[[353064031, C]]

Prosecutors said Shelly, a student at Bucks County Technical High School at the time, acted recklessly on Dec. 17 when he disregarded a school-bus stop sign and struck 16-year-old Zeka with his 1984 Ford Bronco. Zeka's body flew more than 100 feet, officials said.[[352989501, C]]

Zeka was walking to the school bus on Bensalem Boulevard when she was struck and killed.
