A longtime South Jersey stalwart shut down for nearly two years is slated to reopen next month after a makeover.
Mr. Bill's, a popular eatery for decades on Route 73 just before the Atlantic City Expressway in Winslow Township, has been open since the 1950s. The restaurant closed almost two years ago when its former owner retired -- but now, thanks to new owners and a face lift, a new, improved version of the restaurant is set to open in June.
John and Cheryl Ernst bought the old Mr. Bill's restaurant in April and have been keeping nearly 2,000 loyal fans of the eatery up to date on its progress via a Facebook page, "Mr. Bills of Winslow Twp."
This weekend, the Mr. Bill statue that adorns the front parking lot of the restaurant got a power wash, among other improvements chronicled on the page over the last several weeks.
Mr. Bill's has long been a staple for John Ernst, a Northeast Philadelphia native, who would stop by the restaurant with his parents for ice cream. So after retiring five years ago from his position as CEO at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, he and Cheryl decided to jump into the restaurant business.
Cheryl Ernst said she and her husband are planning a grand reopening for the restaurant for sometime in June. Though the restaurant will look like new, she promised it won't feel different.
"We will have all the wonderful goodies that Mr. Bill's is known for," she said.
