Wilmington police are investigating the origin of a loaded assault rifle that an officer found on a city street.
Police say the officer was on patrol late Saturday night around 11:50 p.m. on the 200 block of E. 24th Street when he saw four teenagers congregating around a parked pickup truck.
Police say the teens fled when they saw the officer's patrol car. Underneath the truck, the officer found the assault rifle with an attached, loaded magazine.
Police weren't able to find the teenagers seen near the truck. They are described as four males between the ages of 15 and 17 wearing dark clothing.
