Fire Temporarily Closes ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ Diner

A kitchen fire forced the iconic Llanerch Diner in Delaware County to close. The eatery became famous after being featured prominently in “Silvers Linings Playbook.”

Flames have forced the landmark LLanerch Diner to temporarily close.

One of the cooking grills caught fire around 5:30 Monday morning inside the diner along Township Line Road (U.S. Route 1) near West Chester Pike (state Route 3) in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, said Upper Darby firefighters.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the flames under control.

Crews had to open up part of the ceiling to make sure the fire hadn’t extended up there, firefighters said.

The diner will have to remain closed for at least a week and the owner will need to work to get a health department clearance before he can reopen, firefighters said.

The longtime diner gained fame when it was featured in the 2012 Bradley Cooper film “Silver Linings Playbook.” A famous scene from the movie was shot in one of the booths. Actress Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Actress Academy Award for the movie.
