Lifer Attempts to Escape Prison

A man serving a life sentence in Delaware attempted to escape but was caught after an alarm sounded.

The Department of Correction says 43-year-old Michael T. Hollman attempted to escape from the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna on Saturday morning. Officials say Hollman triggered an alarm around 5:30 .m. Officers caught him when he became trapped between a set of double fences.

The Department of Correction says Hollman is serving a life sentence plus 83 years for two counts of kidnapping, robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and drug charges. Hollman has been an inmate at the facility since 2008.

An investigation into the attempted escape continues.
