Life in Prison for Man Convicted in Slayings of 2 Women

A man has been sentenced to life in prison in the Valentine's Day shooting deaths of his ex-girlfriend and another young woman in northeast Philadelphia more than four years ago.

Jurors deadlocked Thursday while deliberating the death penalty for 32-year-old Shaun Warrick.

They'd convicted him Wednesday of first-degree murder in the February 2011 deaths of 21-year-old Marcedes Ivery and 19-year-old Tiffany Barnhill.

Prosecutors said the 32-year-old former Division I college basketball player was angry because Barnhill had broken off their relationship and Ivery was interfering with his efforts to talk to her.

Warrick's life sentence comes without the possibility of parole.

The Philadelphia Daily News reports Warrick complained in court about his lawyer, saying he wasn't prepared for the penalty phase.

Lawyer Jack McMahon retorted: "that's a complete lie."
