Lehigh Tunnel Closures Could Slow Pocono-Bound Drivers

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is warning motorists to expect delays at the Lehigh Tunnel on the Northeast Extension in Carbon County.

The tunnels on the road also known as Interstate 476 will be partially closed Wednesday and Thursday, forcing traffic to be rerouted.

On Wednesday, the northbound tunnel will be closed and those vehicles will be diverted through a lane on the southbound tunnel. On Thursday, the process will be reversed. The delays and rerouting will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days.

Crews are inspecting the tunnels and performing camera maintenance.

The tunnel is located between Lehigh Valley Exit 56 and Mahoning Valley Exit 74.
