Family Sues to Get Child Molester to Buy Their Home

The parents of a young Lehigh County girl who was sexually molested by their neighbor have sued the man in a bid to force him to buy their house.

Oliver Beck, 65, pleaded guilty in September 2011 to indecent assault of a child under 13 and was sentenced to 3 to 23 months in prison. After getting out of prison, he moved back to his home near Emmaus, about 55 miles north of Philadelphia.

Beck is a Tier 3, a.k.a. lifetime, Megan's Law registrant who is listed as living on the 4900 block of Beck Road, according to the state's sexual offender registry.

The child's parents say they don't want to live next to Beck. Their lawsuit says that because Beck is a registered sex offender, their house is now “virtually unmarketable.” The suit demands that Beck buy their house from them for $350,000.

Beck's lawyer has filed court papers seeking dismissal of the suit, saying the law does not entitle the plaintiffs to the relief they're seeking.
