Laundry Room Fire Forces Evacuation of South Jersey Juvenile Facility

Authorities said a fire in a large dryer forced the evacuation of a juvenile detention facility in South Jersey.

The Press of Atlantic City reported the prisoners had to be moved to other holding facilities Wednesday night because of the smoke and smell at the Harborfields juvenile detention facility in Egg Harbor City.

Officials said the blaze broke out around 7:30 p.m. The dryer was in a room with cinderblock walls and the flames were contained to the laundry room. All of the prisoners were taken to other facilities by 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
