Wilmington KFC/Taco Bell Restaurant Burns

Fast food joint at 1925 Lancaster Ave. in Wilmington, Delaware, goes up in flames.

Smoke poured from a KFC/Taco Bell location in Delaware as firefighters doused the flames Thursday morning.

An employee called 911 to report a fire in a storage area at the fast food joint at 1925 Lancaster Ave. in Wilmington around 8:40 a.m., Wilmington firefighters said.

New Castle County dispatchers said the fire spread to two alarms as heavy smoke poured from the one-story restaurant. Thirty-two firefighters and EMTs responded to the scene, firefighters said.

Doctors at a local hospital treated a firefighter for a leg injury, firefighters said.

The fire department asked people to avoid the area. Roads in the area, including parts of Lancaster, Union, 2nd and Lincoln streets, were closed as firefighters battled the flames.

Firefighters got the blaze under control around 10:30 a.m.

The fire marshal spent the afternoon sifting through the heavily-damaged building searching for cause of the blaze.
