3 Die in Quick-Moving Kensington House Fire

A Rorer Street home went up in flames early Monday leaving 3 residents dead

Three residents, including two brothers, died as flames tore through a Philadelphia home overnight.

The fire quickly consumed a standalone home along Rorer Street, near Kensington Avenue and Cambria Street, in the Kensington neighborhood around 4:35 a.m. Monday.

A 50-year-old man was pulled from the first floor of the burning home, Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel said. He died a short time later at the hospital.

Two other people, who neighbors say live in the basement of the home, were initially unaccounted for Monday morning.

Investigators found the bodies of the missing man and woman in the badly damaged basement later in the day, firefighters said.

Firefighters got the blaze under control after about 40 minutes. Search efforts for originally unaccounted people were hindered by fears that the building could collapse.

Church members at nearby Rock Ministries said that two brothers and the fiancee of one of the men lived in the home. Officials have yet to identify the fire victims.
