With a cold pint of beer in hand, Mayor Jim Kenney and Yards Brewing Founder Tom Kehoe toasted the Philadelphia's brewery's new headquarters in the city's Northern Liberties neighborhood.
Calling the beermaker's move into 70,000 square feet at the former Destination Maternity facility at 456 N. 5th Street a great addition to the "already vibrant and thriving district," Kenney commended Yards for its growth from its start in a Manayunk garage in 1994 to today.
Kehoe, wearing a tri-cornered hat, led a procession from Yards current headquarters, its brewery on 901 N. Delaware Ave., to its new facility, which will have a unique tasting room and private event space.
"We were just a couple of kids, making beer and having fun, and enjoying what we did," Kehoe said, reflecting on how the company began 22 years ago.
