K-9 Named ‘Shooter' is Shot During Police Chase

A police K-9 dog named "Shooter" is shot, along with the suspect at the center of a police pursuit at the Jersey Shore.

Authorities tell NBC10 that Atlantic City police were trying to track down Donald Capriotti, of Egg Harbor Township, who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Capriotti was indicted back in June on 23 charges-- including possessing cocaine, heroin and marijuana with the intent to distribute. Authorities say he was also charged with second-degree weapons offenses and also has a prior manslaughter conviction.

After Capriotti's car was found off Route 40 in Egg Harbor Township, police began searching for him. Around 2:30, police tracked him down at a beach along the back bay in West Atlantic City.

NBC10 is still working to find out the details of exactly what happened next, but we do know that Capriotti was shot as well as that police dog.

Capriotti is in critical condition.

The K-9 dog is being treated at a veterinary hospital in Red Bank.
