Things Have Gotten Worse

It's a lot worse than anyone thought.

In a town hall meeting in Northeast Philadelphia Monday night, Mayor Michael Nutter laid out just how bad the city budget crisis really is.

Last month, he estimated the city would face a $1 billion shortfall over five years.  That's why he announced cuts to city programs like libraries , recreation centers and pools.
Monday night, he shared more bad news with the crowd at Perzel Community Center.

“Unfortunately, I have to tell you things have gotten worse since my announcement on November 6,” Mayor Nutter said.

Also slated for city cutbacks is fire equipment at stations around the city, which has led to protests in several neighborhoods.

Tuesday night, Mayor Nutter is to hold another in his series of town hall meetings at 7pm at Roxborough Memorial Hospital (5800 Ridge Ave in Roxborough).
