Jackknifed Big Rig Backs Up Traffic on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia

As steady rain fell Tuesday morning, a mutli-vehicle crash -- including a jackknifed tractor-trailer -- snarled traffic along Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia.

The wreck, which involved several other vehicles, happened in the southbound lanes approaching Cottman Avenue (Route 73) shortly before 6 a.m., said Pennsylvania State Police. Witnesses counted at least six vehicles involved.

Emergency crews had trouble getting to the scene as traffic packed up behind the crash scene. Expect major delays in the area – the commute from Woodhaven Road (Route 63) to the Vine street Expressway (I-676) took nearly an hour – and consider taking surface streets to get around the wreck.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

After about 45 minutes, crews cleared the scene and traffic began moving again but residual delays remained.
