Prosecutors in Cambria County allege that 22-year-old William Cramer used a torn bedsheet to kill 28-year-old William Sherry and then tried to make it look like suicide.
Authorities said the August 2012 slaying occurred only hours after Sherry had been moved into the same cell as Cramer.
The (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat reports a jury was selected Monday in the case.
Prosecutors allege that Cramer, who is white, disliked Sherry because he thought he'd fathered a biracial child.
