Man Faces Charges in Crash That Killed Teenage Soccer Player

A man who authorities say was under the influence of drugs when he caused a crash that killed a teenage soccer player has been indicted on a vehicular homicide charge.

Atlantic County prosecutors say 40-year Nicholas Garreffi, of Vineland, also faces three counts of assault by auto in the indictment handed up Wednesday by a county grand jury.

Authorities say Garreffi was driving a pickup truck on Route 40 in Hamilton Township when he crossed the center line last August. He collided with a box truck, then struck a car carrying several soccer players from Mainland Regional High School who were on their way to a charity tournament.

Aisling Cooke, a 14-year-old Linwood resident who was a passenger in the car, died a few days later.

A telephone number for Garreffi could not be located Wednesday.
