Multi-Vehicle Wreck Slows Busy Interstate 76 Connecting NJ to Philly

Multi-vehicle crash blocks northbound lanes of busy I-76 in South Jersey

A multi-vehicle wreck slowed one of the busiest routes connecting South Jersey to Philadelphia during the Monday morning commute.

At least seven vehicles crashed right after where Route 42 becomes Interstate 76 northbound in Bellmawr, New Jersey, leading up to the Walt Whitman Bridge just after 5 a.m., New Jersey State Police said.

There didn’t appear to be life-threatening injuries, police said.

It took crews more than an hour to clear the wrecked cars.

Two lanes got as the drive time on Route 42 ballooned to more than 40 minutes longer than normal. The backup stretched back to the Atlantic City Expressway, putting a damper on drivers coming home from the Jersey Shore after a long weekend.

Black Horse Pike served as an alternate route. Once the crash began to clear, Route 42 became passable again.
