Hunters Find Human Remains Near Pa. Rest Stop

The skeletal remains were found Wednesday morning in Bedford.

State police say a group of hunters discovered human remains near a western Pennsylvania rest stop.

Investigators say the skeletal remains were found Wednesday morning near a Pennsylvania Turnpike rest stop in Bedford, about 85 miles west of Harrisburg.

Mercyhurst College forensic archaeologist Dennis Dirkmaat tells The Altoona Mirror the remains will be cleaned and examined in order to determine the person's gender.

It was not immediately clear how long the remains had been in the wooded area.
