Horse Killed After Buggy Driven By Child Collides With Pickup

Police in Lancaster County said a horse was killed when the Amish buggy it was pulling, operated by an 11-year-old girl, collided with a pickup truck.

The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era said is happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

West Earl Township police said 35-year-old David Martin of Ephrata, was teaching his daughter how to drive the buggy at the time of the accident.

In addition to Martin and his daughter, the buggy contained five other occupants: a 33-year-old woman, two 3-year-old boys and two girls ages 8 and 12.

None of the buggy occupants or the driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Richard Berry of Ephrata, was hurt. The horse was badly injured and had to be euthanized.

Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
