Police: Bucks County Man Calls Bomb-Making a ‘Hobby'

Police say a Bucks County man told them he built bombs as a hobby after an explosion occurred in his home early Monday.

Authorities say they responded to a house fire on Midwood Lane in Levittown around 1 a.m. to discover an explosive device constructed by 30-year-old Thomas Piscione had accidentally gone off in the man's residence.

Initially Piscione told investigators a propane tank exploded, before eventually admitting making bombs is one of his hobbies and the blast was an accident, according to reports.

The explosion blew the home's windows out and caused part of the ceiling to collapse, alarming neighbors on the normally quiet street.

Bomb-making materials including a PVC pipe, galvanized steel pipes, ball bearings, chemicals and other materials were found in the home, along with at least four guns, according to officials.

No completed bombs or explosive devices were found, according to detectives.

Investigators told NBC10 they do not believe the suspect had any connections to terrorism, but may be interested in survivalism.

Piscione is facing multiple charges including risking a catastrophe and reckless endangerment.

Police are holding the suspect on 10 percent of $1 million bail, according to reports.
