Home invaders shot and killed a man inside his bedroom in what police are calling a targeted attack in a quiet, Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood.

The 23-year-old victim was inside a home on the 1900 block of Stanwood Street around 8:15 p.m. Thursday when two men, at least one of them armed, broke through the front door.

The victim's family member told police one of the suspects aimed a gun at her. The suspects then went up the stairs, entered the victim's bedroom and opened fire, striking the man at least twice in the chest and torso.

Police said the suspects then fled the home without taking anything and entered a Chrysler van. The vehicle was last seen traveling north on Loretto Avenue.

Investigators said two more people, in addition to the home invaders, may have been inside the van which may have had New Jersey tags, a loud muffler and a sliding side door.

The victim, who police have not yet identified, was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:37 p.m.

Police said nothing was ransacked or stolen and they don't believe robbery was the motive. They also believe the suspects targeted the victim.

"This is a really nice, quiet block," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. "Normally things like that don't happen up here."

Police spoke to the family member as well as neighbors who were outside at the time of the shooting. They are also looking at surveillance footage from nearby homes.

No arrests have been made and police have not released a description of the suspects. They continue to investigate.
