A half hour after a daughter called 911 to report that she found her mother, a well-respected psychiatrist, dead in her Delaware home, a man called 911 to take responsibility for the killing.
New Castle County Police responded to the unit block of Withers Way in the Sanford Ridge neighborhood of Hockessin around 4 a.m. Wednesday to find the 55-year-old mother dead. The home sits on a block of large single-family homes that border the Sanford School.
About half an hour later, police said a man called 911 and claimed to be responsible for the yet-to-be named woman's death.
"We received a call from an individual who claimed responsibility for this incident and provided enough detail that we gave it attention," said county Officer Tom Jackson.
Officers responded to a home in in the Autumnwood community -- it's about a 10-minute drive away -- where the man was arrested.
The suspect indicated he was involved. Police said they didn't anticipate any other suspects in the case.
Investigators held the suspect at police headquarters during the investigation.

The victim, who police have yet to identify, worked with young people as a psychiatrist at the Rockford Center, a behavioral health facility in Newark, Delaware.
"On behalf of all of the staff at the Rockford Center, I extend our thoughts and prayers to the family during this extremely difficult time," read a statement from the center.
Police didn't immediately reveal how the doctor died. They also didn't reveal any possible links between the suspect and victim.
