A young man is fighting for his life after he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle while on his dirt bike in Philadelphia’s Franklinville neighborhood Tuesday night, according to his parents.
Richard Ramirez, 21, was riding the dirt bike on Rising Sun Avenue and Pike Street around 9:30 p.m. when he was struck by a dark vehicle. Surveillance video obtained by NBC10 shows the crash and then the vehicle driving off while Ramirez lies motionless on the street.
“I don’t see how you can just hit someone’s child and leave them there to die,” the victim’s mother, Loretta Ramirez, told NBC10.
The video then shows a group of people running to the victim's side.
“If it wasn’t for his friends he would have died because they had to wrap his arm up with a tank top until the ambulance came to stop the bleeding,” the victim’s father, Angel Ramirez, said.
Richard Ramirez was taken to the hospital where he remains unconscious and in critical condition, according to his parents. They told NBC10 he suffered a broken pelvis and hip as well as severe cuts to his head and arm.

“I just pray my son becomes conscious and wakes up,” Loretta Ramirez said.
Angel Ramirez fought back tears as he shared a message with the hit-and-run driver.
“I’m just trying to get a clear picture of your license plate,” he said. “It’s better if you just turn yourself in.”
