Hit-and-Run Didn't Cause Elderly Birthday Woman's Death: Police

An elderly woman who died on her birthday after a truck crashed into a Bucks County home did not die as a result of the crash but rather of natural causes, according to investigators.

The coroner determined Saturday that 93-year-old Jennie Russo's death was caused by "in-stage lung disease pulmonary fibrosis."

There was "no evidence of trauma caused by the accident,"  police said.

Russo was in a hospice bed around 2:30 a.m. Friday near the part of the home, located at the corner of Redbrook and Rolling lanes in Levittown, where the pickup truck struck after the driver lost control, police said.

Tire tracks could be seen on the home's lawn.

Russo, who turned 93 Friday, died a few hours after the crash occurred.

Several pieces of the striking vehicle, which officials said is a full-sized red pickup truck, were recovered at the scene.

Around 2:30 p.m. Friday, police confirmed they found the pickup along the 500 block of Bath Street in Bristol, Pennsylvania — that's about 5 miles away from the crash scene.

The truck's owner turned himself into police Friday afternoon and cooperated with investigators allowing them to take toxicology samples.

Police released the man Friday night. the District Attorney's Office isn't expected to announce any possible charges in the case until next week.
