A young boy was hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in North Philadelphia Wednesday night.
The 3-year-old child was on the 2400 block of North Reese Street and crossing the road just before 7 p.m. when he was struck by a burgundy minivan, possibly a Dodge Caravan, driven by an unidentified man.
"Witnesses also say the driver, of the striking vehicle, stopped the minivan, got out, looked at the child, had some words with neighbors," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The driver then fled the scene though witnesses saw the license plate.
Police were able to track the owner of the minivan, a woman. She was not behind the wheel at the time of the crash however. Instead, police say, a man in his early 20s, weighing about 140 pounds and standing about 5-feet, 6-inches tall, was the hit-and-run driver. They continued Thursday to search for the man but did not reveal his connection to the vehicle's owner.
The boy was taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition Thursday.
