High School Senior Killed in Crash Was Speeding Down Wrong Lane: Police

State police say a high school senior was speeding around other traffic on the way to his southwestern Pennsylvania high school before he crashed his pickup and was killed.

Police identified the victim as 18-year-old Jesse Benson, of Wind Ridge.

Benson was driving to West Greene Middle and High School about 7:50 a.m. Tuesday when police say he sped around a line of traffic on Route 21.

Another motorist trying to make a left turn out of the line of traffic clipped Benson's truck, causing it to flip end over end, and throwing Benson from the truck.

The Greene County coroner pronounced Benson dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Superintendent Thelma Szarell says the school has only 400 students and has been hard hit by Benson's death.
