Harrah's Speaks Out Against Another Philly Casino

A Philadelphia-area casino is speaking out against plans to open another casino in Philadelphia, saying the region's gambling industry is already coping with a two-year slide in revenues.

Ron Baumann, general manager of Harrah's Philadelphia in suburban Chester, said in a statement Tuesday that adding another casino to the mix "simply doesn't make sense." He said it would threaten the viability of the area's four existing casinos.

Four applicants are vying for Philadelphia's remaining casino license. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board plans a vote next week.

Last week, Philadelphia's SugarHouse Casino said in a filing that regulators are operating on "stale information" about the strength of the region's gambling market and urged a delay of the vote.

Regulators have said they're taking into account the market impact of another casino.
