Gunman Grabs Cash from Register at South Jersey Grocery Store

Employees at a South Jersey grocery store tried to fend off a gunman who grabbed money from the register during an armed robbery Monday night.

The suspect entered Morelo's Grocery, located in the Village Shoppes near Shore Road and Delsea Drive in Rio Grande, Cape May County, just after 8:30 p.m., authorities said.

He reached into the register and snatched cash as workers tried to fight him off, police said.

The robber, described as a man in dark pants and a gray hooded sweatshirt with a distinct image of the Liberty Bell on the back, ran from the store, investigators said.

Middle Township officers and a Cape May County Sheriff's Department K-9 unit searched the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate him.

Anyone with information on the suspect's identity or the crime is urged to call Middle Township Police at 609-465-8700. Anonymous tips can also be made to the Cape May County Crime Stoppers at 609-465-2800.
