A fire caused extensive damage to a Lehigh County farm and greenhouse Tuesday night.
The three-alarm fire started shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Dan Schantz Farm and Greenhouse on the 8000 block of Spinnerstown Road in Zionsville, Pennsylvania. More than 100 firefighters from Lehigh, Bucks, Berks and Montgomery counties responded to the blaze and were able to bring the flames under control.
Officials say the fire started somewhere near the shipping and planting warehouse. The owners told NBC10 the estimated cost of damage could reach $1 million. Fortunately no one was hurt. The owners also say they recently cleaned out the entire stock of Christmas flowers and they have three other farms to pick up the slack.
"[We're] fast on track to recover," said Lisa Myers, a co-owner. "We are getting heat back into the greenhouse to mitigate the loss of any other plants. We have an amazing team of people that pull together and work together."
