Good Humor's “Ice Cream Truck of the Future” Bringing Philly Free Ice Cream

Good Humor trucks are back on the street for the first time in 40 years – and they're coming to Philadelphia.

Not only will Philadelphians be able to enjoy the company's famous frozen treats straight from the truck for the first time since 1976, they'll also get them for free.

The three-week event will launch at LOVE Park Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. Those who attend will be able to get free Good Humor ice cream (while supplies last) in addition to photo opportunities with the Good Humor Man and more, according to a company news release.

After the event, the Good Humor Joy Squad will be touring the city, handing out free goodies to the people of Philadelphia through August 2. The trucks will also visit local offices to offer a free, frozen lunchtime surprise.

The company is using Twitter as its main means of communication with fans during the event. According to the company's news release, those who follow @GoodHumor will be able to track the truck's movement throughout the city. Followers will even be able to request a location for the truck to go and the truck will deliver on demand.

The Youngstown, Ohio-based company has made some upgrades to its truck during its decades-long hiatus. The new "ice cream truck of the future" will feature digital screens which can function as either a menu that shows availability of different snacks in real time or a live social media feed. The vehicles also come equipped with a music system that will play popular hits.

The Good Humor Joy Squad is in New York City through July 12 and plans to visit Washington, D.C. and Boston before summer's end.
