Fire Tears Through Apartment Above Bar

Fire broke out this morning in the apartment above an area tavern leaving a man homeless and the bar damaged.

Firefighters spent the morning battling the blaze after customers leaving Dino’s Bar & Grill at McDade & Gardner Avenues in Glenolden, Pa. saw flames shooting from the apartment above after 1 a.m.

Those customers called 911.

“We arrived and there was heavy fire coming from the second- and third-floors,” said Glenolden Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike McGowen.

McGowen said it took about three and half hours to bring the fire entirely under control.

No one was hurt and the man who lives above the bar wasn’t home at the time of the blaze.

The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania provided assistance to the man who lives above the bar since he "lost everything" in the blaze.

It’s unclear how much damage Dino’s bar sustained but McGowen said there was a lot of water damage and some fire damage.

The exact cause of the fire remained under investigation Thursday.
