Prison Assault Prompts Transfer for Alleged Kidnapper: Source

Christina Regusters, 19, is in prison facing charges for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 5-year-old girl

The woman charged with the kidnapping and rape of a 5-year-old girl has been moved to a different correctional facility for her safety, prison sources tell NBC10.

Christina Regusters, 19, was recently transferred to the Northampton County Prison after being assaulted, according to prison sources. Regusters’ attorney, Fred Harrison, says his client was moved because this is a high-profile case.

Regusters is accused of holding the 5-year-old captive inside a Cobbs Creek home in January. Investigators say there the girl was sexually assaulted before being left in the cold at an Upper Darby playground.

Regusters faces 15 charges including kidnapping, rape and involuntary deviant sexual intercourse. She is being held on $4 million bail.

Of the charges Regusters faces, Harrison told NBC10's Daralene Jones one charge -- kidnapping for ransom -- seems "far fetched."

"I don't have any information that is the case," he says. "The information I have suggests that, uh, that there are other individuals probably involved in the case."

A spokesperson for Philadelphia District Attorney's Office says it's just a matter of semantics and that kidnapping for ransom is the full legal term for kidnapping in the Commonwealth.

Harrison says he's hired a private investigator to help build a defense for Regusters. He insists to NBC10's Daralene Jones the teen is taking the fall for someone else.

Jones also spoke with the attorney for the victim's family who believes another man was involved in the girl's rape and kidnapping.
