A northern New Jersey teenager accused of threatening another girl online has pleaded guilty to cyber harassment.
Union County prosecutors say the 15-year-old Hillside girl entered her plea Monday and was sentenced to a year of probation. She also must undergo anger management counseling, complete an anti-cyberbullying training course, perform 15 hours of community service and submit to a curfew.
The girl, who now attends a local high school, is also barred from having any contact with the victim, a former classmate who is in middle school.
Prosecutors say the girl sent an expletive-laced Facebook message to the victim last April, challenging her to a fight and threatening to kill her.
The case marks the first successful juvenile prosecution by Union County prosecutors involving the state's new law targeting cyberbullying.
