Gas Leak Inside Camden Elementary School

PSE&G says a pipe ruptured inside the school.

Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) confirm that gas is leaking from a ruptured pipe inside a vacant Camden elementary school Wednesday morning.

Authorities say a gas odor was discovered at Powell Elementary School on the 1000 block of Linden Street around 6:30 a.m.

PSE&G crews are working to stop the leak from the road outside of the school.

Only one lane on Linden Street is open from Admiral Wilson Boulevard to 8th Street. 10th Street was closed in both directions from Pearl to Market Streets, but has since been reopened.

The school is not in use anymore, so no evacuations were necessary, although residents in a nearby nursing home were moved to another wing.
