An international company, Doppelmayr CTEC, proposed a $350 million project Wednesday, to build a city-wide gondola system.
Tourists, residents and high rollers would sail above homes, the boardwalk and the wetlands in electric gondolas (they look like the Cable Cars at Six Flags Great Adventure). Tickets would cost $8 to ride all-day.
The “green” mode of transport would hopefully cut way back on car traffic and reduce pollution. That's the company's pitch.
Mayor Lorenzo Langford was interested in the green aspect of the project. Cynthia Cortopassi, the project's creator, even speculated that some financial support through the federal economic stimulus funding.
