Fundraiser for Teen Who Lost Leg in Hit-and-Run

A fundraiser will be held Saturday night for a teen boy who lost his leg after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bike.

On April 21, around 10:50 p.m., 18-year-old Christopher Brooks of Woodlyn, was riding his bike on West Chester Pike in Ridley Park. As he was riding, he was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling west on Chester Pike. The vehicle then fled the scene of the crash.

Brooks, a student at Ridley High School, was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center and treated for several traumatic injuries. Ultimately, doctors had to amputate his right leg below the knee due to the injuries he suffered. He continues to recover from the crash.

A fundraiser for Brooks will be held Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Woodlyn Fire House on 228 Fairview Road in Woodlyn, Pa. The donations will help with medical bills.

On July 9, 25-year-old Adrienne McCrea was arrested and charged in the hit-and-run. Police say Mccare struck Brooks, fled the scene and then tried to hide the evidence with the help of her boyfriend.

After the crash, police say McCrea drove her vehicle to her father’s home in Norwood, Pa. Police say she then contacted her boyfriend, 31-year-old Ty Winsheimer. The couple allegedly took the truck to a storage facility in New Jersey where it was altered and spray-painted. Police say the vehicle was then taken to a junkyard in Virginia where it was disposed of.

According to police, investigators found the missing part of a bug deflector inside the truck that was part of the deflector found at the scene of the hit-and-run, which ultimately led to McCrea’s arrest.

McCrea is charged with fleeing the scene of the accident and making false reports to police. She is also, along with her boyfriend, charged with conspiracy and tampering with evidence.
